Verification code
A verification code is used for identity identification. It is normally a series of 4-6 digits.
Setting verification code is mainly for safety reasons. Usually, when a user signs up for a website or an app, that user will receive a verification code on the cellphone and is expected to input that code into the website or the app. In this way, the user’s phone number can be proved valid. Also, when a user tries to activate sensitive activities, such as making a payment or change important information, a verification code can double prove the user’s identity, which decreases the fraud risk.
RCS
RCS means Rich Communication Services. It is an improved version of SMS. Besides text, it can also use voice and video messages to convey information.
Google is a leading company that wants to promote RCS messages all around the world. With a large Google user base, Google is available to promote RCS messages widely. The app that Google developed for RCS message sending is Chat.
Why does Google want to promote the RCS message? Because with so many platforms that provide free plain text messages, Google wants to take on the new market of RCS messages, which is also the future trend of the SMS messaging industry. With more than 200 operators in 59 countries supporting RCS message sending, it is already a widely used technology.
Is there an RCS verification code on the market?
Technically, if your phone’s operator supports RCS messages, you can receive an RCS verification code on your phone. Some merchants already use RCS messages to send verification codes. However, since the cost of an RCS message is higher than a plain text message, not so many merchants adopt RCS messages to send verification codes. The text message is still the most popular way for verification code sending due to its simpleness and cheap cost.
