Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is a government-owned telecommunications service provider headquartered in New Delhi, India.
It is under the ownership of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India.
It was incorporated on 1st October 2000 by the Government of India. Its top official is designated as Chairman and Managing Director who is a central government civil servant of the Indian Communication Finance Service cadre or a central government engineer of the Indian Telecommunications Service cadre.
It provides mobile voice and internet services through its nationwide telecommunications network across India. It is the largest government-owned wireline telecommunications network service provider and the fourth largest government-owned wireless telecommunications service provider with more than 50% market share in India.
MTNL
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited headquartered in New Delhi, India.
MTNL Provides services in the metro cities of Mumbai and New Delhi in India and the island nation of Mauritius in Africa.
The company had a monopoly in Mumbai and New Delhi until 1992 when the telecom sector was opened to other service providers." Transparency makes us different" is the motto of the company.
The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited currently holds 100% stock in the company. The company's shares are listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, Global depository receipts on London Stock Exchange, and American depository receipts on New York Stock Exchange.
As of June 2021, it has 3.28 million subscribers. It is also a public sector enterprise of Navratna status which is given by the Government of India to the best-performing state-owned companies.
Airtel
Bharti Airtel Limited, also known as Airtel, is an Indian multinational telecommunications services company based in New Delhi, India.
It operates in 18 countries across South Asia and Africa, as well as the Channel Islands.
Airtel provides 2G, 4G LTE, 4G+ mobile services, fixed-line broadband, and voice services depending upon the country of operation.
Airtel had also rolled out its VoLTE technology across all Indian telecom circles. It is the second-largest mobile network operator in India and the third-largest mobile network operator in the world.
Airtel was named India's 2nd most valuable brand in the first-ever Brandz ranking by Millward Brown and WPP plc.
Reliance Communications
Reliance Communications Limited (RCOM) was an Indian mobile network provider headquartered in Navi Mumbai that offered voice and 2G and 3G data services. In February 2019, the company filed for bankruptcy as it was unable to sell assets to repay its debt. It has an estimated debt of ₹50,000 crores against assets worth ₹18,000 crores.
As of March 2020, the company reworked its strategy and continues to operate 4G data services, fixed-line communications, data center services, and enterprise solutions as well as subsea cable networks under the banner name, "Global Cloud Xchange".
Aircel
Aircel Ltd. was an Indian mobile network operator headquartered in Mumbai that offered voice and 2G and 3G data services.
Maxis Communications held a 74% stake and Sindya Securities and Investments held the remaining 26%.
Aircel was founded by Chinnakannan Sivasankaran and commenced operations in Tamil Nadu in 1999.
It was once a market leader in Tamil Nadu and had a considerable presence in Odisha, Assam, and North-East telecom circles.
2G and 3G Services including voice were shut down in all circles due to failure in merging with Reliance Communications.
Vodafone Essar
Vodafone India (formerly Vodafone Essar Ltd, Hutchison Essar Ltd) was the Indian subsidiary of UK-based Vodafone Group plc and was a provider of telecommunications services in India with its operational head office in Mumbai.
As of March 2018, Vodafone India had a market share of 21% and with its merger with Idea, the collective Vodafone Idea network has approximately 375 million subscribers and is the third-largest mobile telecommunications network in India.
Tata Indicom
Tata Tele Business Services Limited (TTBSL), formally known as Tata Tele Services Limited (TTSL), is an Indian broadband, telecommunications, and cloud service provider based in Mumbai. It is a subsidiary of the Tata Group, an Indian conglomerate.
It operated fixed-line services under the brand name Tata Tele Broadband in various telecom circles of India.
Tata Teleservices used to provide mobile services under Tata DoCoMo (GSM mobile operator, wireless broadband).
In August 2017, Tata Teleservices sought to exit the mobile network division due to large losses and debt, then sold its unit to Bharti Airtel in a debt-free and cash-free deal and described as virtually free. Airtel will only pay a part of Tata Teleservices's unpaid spectrum payment liability. In November 2017, Tata Teleservices customers transitioned to the Airtel mobile network under an Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) arrangement. SIM cards and billing plans remained the same. The consumer mobile businesses of Tata Docomo, Tata Teleservices (TTSL), and Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Limited (TTML) have been merged into Bharti Airtel from 1 July 2019.

Idea Cellular (Vodafone Idea)
Vodafone Idea Limited, doing business as Vi, is an Indian telecom operator with its headquarters based in Mumbai and Gandhinagar. It is a pan-India integrated GSM operator offering 2G, 4G, 4G+, VoLTE, and VoWiFi services.
As of 31 July 2021, Vi has a subscriber base of 271.90 million, making it the third-largest mobile telecommunications network in India and the 10th largest mobile telecommunications network in the world.
On 31 August 2018, Vodafone India merged with Idea Cellular, to form a new entity named Vodafone Idea Limited. Vodafone currently holds a 45.1% stake in the combined entity and Aditya Birla Group holds a 26% stake. Ravinder Takkar, Ex-CEO of Vodafone Romania is the current CEO of the company.
On 7 September 2020, Vodafone Idea unveiled its new brand identity, 'Vi' which involves the integration of the company's erstwhile separate brands 'Vodafone' and 'Idea' into one unified brand.
As per the latest data published by the telecom regulator TRAI, Vi had the highest upload speed of 6.7 Mbps speed in May 2021.
Uninor
Telenor (India) Communications Private Limited, formerly known as Uninor, was an Indian mobile network operator. The company was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor Group. In February 2017, Telenor Group announced merging the India business with Bharti Airtel in a no-cash deal with the liability of Airtel to take over the outstanding spectrum payments of Rs 1,650 crore post necessary regulatory approvals.
As of April 2018, it had 36.15 million subscribers. On 14 May 2018, DoT gave the final approval required for merging Telenor India with Bharti Airtel.
