AIS
Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS) is Thailand's largest GSM mobile phone operator with 39.87 million customers as of Q3 2016. Founded in April 1986, AIS started off as a computer rental business. In October 1990, it launched analog 900 MHz mobile phone services with a 20-year monopoly concession from the Telephone Organization of Thailand (TOT), and later became the first company allowed to operate on the GSM-900 frequency. It acquired Shinawatra Paging in June 1992.
The company is controlled by Intouch Holdings (formerly Shin Corporation), headed by Temasek Holdings, a Singapore government-owned agency. AIS was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 5 November 1991. As of 23 December 2011, Intouch holds 40.45 percent of the shares of the company, and Singapore Telecommunications (also majority-held by Temasek) together with Thai Trust Fund and OCBC Nominees holds a 23.32% stake.
Temasek bought the AIS brand through the 2006 acquisition of the Shin Corporation from ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
In February 2014, in a conflict between the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PRDC) and Shinawatra, the PDRC called for a boycott of AIS, wrongly believing it to be owned by the Shinawatra family.
DTAC
Total Access Communication Public Company Limited, commonly known as DTAC, is the third-largest GSM mobile phone provider in Thailand after AIS and True. DTAC is owned by Telenor both directly and indirectly, and both companies share the same logo.
As of 31 December 2011, DTAC had 23.2 million subscribers with a market share of subscribers at around 30 percent. As of 2019, the company has 20.642 million mobile subscriptions and 3904 employees. It is listed on the Singapore Exchange and the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
In 2015 DTAC reported total assets of 110,965 million baht, with revenues of 87,753 million baht, and a net profit of 5,893 million baht.
As of 11 April 2012, DTAC's parent company became BCTN Holding.
DTAC has won the "Best Mobile Operator of Thailand" award for three consecutive years (2005–2007) from Asian MobileNews Awards 2007, organized by Asian MobileNews Magazine.
DTAC is BUKA’s cooperating operator in Thailand.
TrueMove H
TrueMove H is a mobile telecommunication operator provided by Real Move Co., Ltd. and True Move H Universal Communication Co., Ltd. (formerly Real Future Co., Ltd.), subsidiaries of True Corporation. It is the second-largest operator in Thailand.
Real Move is a mobile virtual network operator that uses CAT Telecom's 850 MHz network, acquired from Hutchison CAT Wireless MultiMedia Ltd (Hutch). True Move H uses 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 2100 MHz, which licenses were granted by Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.
The predecessor brand "TrueMove" was operating on GSM 1800 MHz network when the license expired in September 2013.
CAT Telecom
CAT Telecom Public Company Limited is the state-owned company that runs Thailand’s international telecommunications infrastructure, including its international gateways, satellite, and submarine cable networks connections. By 2021 CAT Telecom become National Telecom Public Company Limited after the merger with TOT Public Company Limited.
Until recently, CAT had a monopoly on international telephony and CDMA mobile telephony. CAT partnered with TOT to provide the GSM mobile service Thai Mobile. In partnership with Hutchison, it provided a CDMA2000 1x mobile service in 25 central provinces and operated its own CDMA2000 1xEV-DO in 51 provinces.
CAT provides data communications and applications services, such as leased line, Fiber-to-the-Premises, Gigabit Ethernet, xDSL, live TV broadcast, e-Commerce, e-Auction, and e-Security.
TOT Public Company Limited
TOT Public Company Limited is a Thai state-owned telecommunications company. Originally established in 1954 and corporatized in 2002, TOT used to be known as the Telephone Organization of Thailand and TOT Corporation Public Company Limited.
TOT's main line of business is fixed-line telephony, although it has several other businesses, including mobile telephony. By 2021 TOT PCL become National Telecom Public Company Limited after the merger with CAT Telecom.
